Taking Stock of a Successful Anniversary

Published Mon, Jan 14th, 2013

Our modest little group of dedicated volunteers has just completed the successful celebration of the 40th anniversary of the first publication of our trail guides.  A travelling exhibit of various editions of our trail guides - from the very first one to the latest - was organized and displayed in at least ten public library branches in Greater Victoria, Lake Cowichan and Nanaimo from spring to late fall.  As well, our President did a noon hour interview with CFAX radio's Murray Langdon in April.  During the summer months, newspaper articles about our anniversary appeared in the Victoria Times Colonist, the Saanich News, Victoria News, Goldstream Gazette, Oak Bay News, the Victoria Naturalist and Cloudburst Magazine.  A hospitality event was held to thank former and current contributors.  All in all a worthy recognition of our achievements.

Many thanks to all organiztions and businesses who helped make this happen!

As well, bursaries and a scholarship sponsored by the Society were awarded at four post-secondary institution on the Island, and grants worth several thousand dollars were  given to organizations to improve or build trails.

Our three books for Vancouver Island continue to sell well, with Hiking Trails 2 the strongest seller during the year, and we also sold our first e-books in 2012.  We hope to serve the Vancouver Island hiking community for many more years.  Please keep on sending trail updates and suggestions by using the Reader Survey link or direct emails.  Thank you.
