Welcome to hikingtrailsbooks.com - celebrating over 40 great years!
The Vancouver Island Trails Information Society is a non-profit society dedicated to providing information to the public about parks and trails on Vancouver Island since 1972.
VITIS achieves this goal by self-publishing hiking trail guides covering Vancouver Island in three books (click on a book cover to see what's inside or the adjacent map).
Please note: We are not able to provide day to day information on trail conditions. That is not within our mandate. Contact BC Parks, Timber Companies, Hiking Clubs and others suggested in our books. Contact information is provided.
The three hiking books published by VITIS have now gone through 32 editions, setting the standard for Vancouver Island. They provide information about the best hikes and outdoor experiences on Vancouver Island and will be of interest to the casual walker, novice or experienced hiker, trail runner, and to visitors and tourists to this area. Our books promote outdoor activity, fitness and tourism. The best-selling series continues to be the essential guide to hiking on what is considered one of the most spectacular islands in the world.
VITIS has confidence in the reliability of information about the hiking trails and backcountry routes presented in these volumes as of publication dates. However, the pace and scope of change makes uncertain the information regarding management agencies, organizational arrangement, the provision of services and maintenance of facilities.
Hikers are encouraged to check with the contacts suggested in the books before venturing where there are uncertainties. Hikers are also encouraged to check our website for changes, and to report to us anything that they observe that might be of interest to other hikers.
Warning - Disclaimer: These guidebooks are intended for use by competent hikers who accept the inherent and sometimes unpredictable risks and hazards associated with outdoor activities such as hiking. Be sure of your ability to safely hike any of the trails listed before venturing out. The user assumes all risks. Also read the Hints and Cautions section in each of the books.
